Do: Literature as Liberation - A Black History Month Event

When: Saturday, February 24th, 12 pm - 3 pm
Where: The Bottom / 2340 East Magnolia Ave. Knoxville
 
Don't miss an unforgettable Black History Month celebration! Join the independent bookshop, The Bottom, for Literature as Liberation, a day filled with activities for all ages that revolve around the significance of Black literature in our community. Support this local Bookshop by grabbing a book and engaging in events like adult and children read-aloud, Black literature trivia, and swift book recommendations from the Bookstore Director. Cap off the day with a powerful Keynote Speaker to reaffirm dedication to Black literature.

Eat & Drink: Basics of Bread Baking

When: Saturday, February 24th, 11 am - 2 pm
Where: The Cutting Edge Classroom / 150 N Martinwood Rd. Suite 402, Knoxville
 
In this fun, hands-on, and interactive class you will “rise” to the occasion with an array of seasonal winter-inspired breads! You will Indulge your senses in this class as you learn to make bakery-style breads. The Chef will demonstrate and guide you through the process of making the dough, fermenting, proofing, forming, shaping, scoring, and baking the bread. You will also discuss various flour and yeast types and which are best for the types of bread you will be making. You will learn all the techniques “kneaded” to make fresh, artisan-quality bread on your own! Best of all there will be plenty of bread to sample in class and everyone will go home with a loaf of bread to share with family and friends!

Self Care Sunday: Yoga Class at Ijams Nature Center

Where: Visitor Center at Ijams / 2915 Island Home Ave. Knoxville
 
Give yourself all the self-love you deserve! Ijams is partnering with Hope Irwin to bring you a weekly yoga class on Sundays from 1-2 pm. Release all the stress from the past week and get centered for the week ahead.  The location of this class will inside the Visitor Center during the winter months.
 
Classes will target flexibility, strength, and balance using variations of Vinyasa, Hatha, and Power flows. All ages and skill levels are welcome.
 
Classes are $10 for adults and $5 for kids 5-12. Please bring a yoga mat with you.
